Twenty Two Differences
Sometimes in politics it’s hard to find distinctions between two candidates.
Fortunately for those of us in the 22nd Legislative District, the differences are clear; crystal clear!
Here are 22 distinct things about Chris Reykdal that are completely opposite of Jason Hearn, his extremely conservative Republican challenger. These are based 100% on public statements, questionnaires, and the candidates’ websites:
1) Chris is Pro-Choice!
2) Chris is endorsed by NARAL and Planned Parenthood Votes! Washington.
3) Chris supports Cap-and-Trade legislation that would put additional taxes on fossil fuels as a means of reducing carbon emissions.
4) Chris supports an increase in the hazardous substance tax to create dedicated revenue focused on Puget Sound clean-up.
5) Chris is endorsed by the Sierra Club!
6) Chris opposes I-1053 that would require a 2/3rds vote of the House and Senate to increase taxes, leaving just 17 Republican senators in total control of our tax code! The initiatives four biggest contributors are out-of-state oil and gas companies.
7) Chris supports R-52 that would create dedicated funds to carry out energy retrofits of our public schools, colleges, and universities.
8) Chris opposes I-1082, which would privatize Workers Compensation and would put benefits for injured workers in the hands of AIG and other mega-insurance companies.
9) Chris opposes I-1100 and I-1105 that would expand and privatize the sale of hard liquor.
10) Chris opposes I-1107, which would repeal taxes and further grow our State budget deficit, and supports I-1098 that will lower B&O taxes, a portion of the State property tax, and institute a high-earners income tax.
11) Chris supports comprehensive sex education in schools that goes beyond abstinence.
12) Chris supports Marriage Equality!
13) Chris is endorsed by the State Labor Council.
14) Chris is endorsed by the Washington Federation of State Employees.
15) Chris is endorsed by Senator Fraser, Rep. Hunt, and Rep. Williams.
16) Chris has been a legislative staffer with hands on experience in bill drafting, budget writing, and revenue analysis.
17) Chris is endorsed by the mayors of Olympia, Tumwater, and Lacey.
18) Chris is proud of our public schools and his son Carter attends public school (and daughter Kennedy will attend next year).
19) Chris has been a classroom teacher.
20) Chris has been endorsed by every education advocacy group in this race (WEA, Public School Employees, American Federation of Teachers, League of Education Voters, and Stand for Children).
21) Chris is the person in this race NOT backed by the gun lobby!
22) Chris is the person in this race NOT endorsed by Rob McKenna!
Chris’ conservative opponent pulled 34% right here in the 22nd District primary.
